What is yoga?

What are the benefits of yoga?

What does "Namaste" mean in yoga?

Namaste is a Sanskrit greeting that translates to "I bow to you" or "The divine in me honors the divine in you." It's typically said at the end of yoga class with hands pressed together at heart center as a gesture of respect and gratitude.

I am a beginner, which style should I start with?

For beginners, Gentle Flow or Stretching classes are excellent starting points. These styles focus on basic postures and proper alignment while moving at a slower, more manageable pace.

How often should I practice yoga?

Start with 2-3 sessions per week to build consistency without overwhelming yourself. As your body adapts and your practice develops, you can gradually increase frequency. Remember, even 10-15 minutes of daily practice can be beneficial.

What equipment do I need for my home practice?

Essential items include a non-slip yoga mat, comfortable clothing, and optionally, yoga blocks and a strap for support. As you advance, you might want to add a bolster and blanket for restorative poses.

Can I eat before doing yoga?

It's best to practice yoga on an empty stomach. Wait 2-3 hours after a full meal, or 1-2 hours after a light snack. This prevents discomfort during practice and allows for easier movement, especially in twisting poses.

Can I do yoga when menstruating?

Yes, you can practice yoga during menstruation, but it's recommended to modify your practice. Avoid intense abdominal work. Focus on gentle, restorative poses that help alleviate menstrual discomfort.

I am not fit and flexible, can I do yoga?

Absolutely! Yoga is for everybody, regardless of fitness level or flexibility. The practice is about working with your body as it is today, not comparing yourself to others. Regular practice will naturally improve your strength and flexibility over time.

What should I wear and bring for yoga class?

Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows for easy movement. We provide yoga mats, but you're welcome to bring your own. Don't forget to bring a water bottle and a small towel.
